JJ Thomas was diagnosed with Leukemia on November 4, 2016. He was in 7th grade at Grizzell Middle School in Dublin, OH, playing football and soccer, doing well in school and enjoying his friends. One phone call changed all of that. He spent the next year undergoing intense chemotherapy, having bone marrow biopsies, lumbar punctures and blood transfusions, unable to attend school, or have much interaction with the outside world as he often did not feel well and his immune system was very compromised. Throughout this time, JJ, along with his siblings Larkin and Zach, his parents, Luke and Michelle kept their faith and a positive attitude and did everything to FIGHT to beat cancer.

In November of 2017, JJ started the Leukemia Maintenance Treatment and went back to school and slowly started returning to activities and a “new normal”. His treatment will last until March of 2020. JJ has always loved to run and enjoyed racing anyone who would take on the challenge. His speed impressed many and he impressed us all when he decided to run cross country for Dublin Jerome High School this fall even as he had to take chemotherapy daily and get infusion treatments monthly at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. JJ has a little under a year left of treatment and we want to help him GET TO THE FINISH LINE by bringing a community together to run or walk with him in the #JJSTRONG 5K! There will be an option for a 1.4-mile walk for anyone who wants to participate in the event but prefers a shorter distance.

JJ wants to donate any profits made to organizations that helped him like Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Families for a Cure and to raise money to start a #JJSTRONG scholarship. Please join us!
