Course Summary

PLEASE NOTE: We are undergoing a course change for 2021 and is currently under review with the U.S. Forest Service. Rest assured, our new course is just as magnificent! The proposed course will have 44 miles of single track trail and only 6 miles of forest roads with the same amount of vertical gain. One large 32-mile loop and an 18-mile out-and-back to the summit of Granite Peak. Use the following URL to preview the proposed course: https://caltopo.com/m/ULGP

Kaniksu 50-mile (K50)

The course is completed by running a 32-mile loop and an 18 mile out-and-back. The loop is very runnable and made up of single track trails used mostly by hikers and some dirt bikes. The out-and-back section climbs nine miles through the forest and ends on the rocky summit of Granite Peak. Participants will descend the same route back and finish at our race headquarters in Frater Lake. There is 10,600 feet of elevation gain on this highly respectable course. There is a 20-hour cut-off.

Emory Corwine Memorial Ruck Race

Training to fast pack, go farther on your next hunt? Then this is the race for you!!! The ruck/pack race is a relay race where 1-5 participants will complete one of 5 legs, carrying a minimum 35lb pack/ruck for males and 25lb for females packed with non-perishables food items. The ruck racers travel over the same course as the ultra. If you can hike a 24 minute per mile pace then you can do this event! Ruck racers have a 20-hour time limit to complete the course. This race event is to honor an Air Force SERE Specialist, Emory Corwine. Emory passed away in a motorcycle accident in Airway Heights, WA on his way to perform flag duty one early morning in June 2012.

All proceeds from this event will go to the SERE Association. The SERE Association brings together Past, Present & future SERE community members & provides scholarships & emergency funds to military personnel in need. The event has also donated just under 3,000lbs of food to the 2nd Harvest Food Bank in Spokane, WA.

This year we are offering discount codes for 1-4 person ruck teams. Discount codes are as follows:
Two Person Ruck: TWORUCK (40%)
Three Person Ruck: THREERUCK (30%)
Four Person Ruck: FOURRUCK (15%)

Sweet 50k

This Sweet 50k (32-miler) is a lollipop-style course and boasts a whopping 7,525' feet of elevation gain! This course has an amazing single track trail that winds like a roller coaster to the first aid station (550) at 10 miles. After that, you run downhill for 4.3 miles on a dirt road to the next aid station (La Pit) (14 miles). From there, you start to climb up to the highest point of your run and then head back down to 550 Aid Station (22ish miles). You'll return to Frater Lake (Finish) on the same roller coaster trail you started on. This Sweet 50k also has a generous 12 hour cut-off. The perfect setup for your first ultra!

Tall Trees 29k

This 18-mile course is an absolute grind on the way up and a VERY fast run on the way down! Runners will start and finish at our Frater Lake Headquarters and run the out-and-back section (Granite Peak) of the K50 course. The trail is very runnable and boasts a 2,500’ vertical gain that consist of some of the best trails in the area. At the mid-point, runners will be awarded with one of the best views the area has to offer. There is a generous 8-hour cut-off for this course.

Herman's Half

This course is new to our weekend of fun and is a very fast course! This is a point-to-point course that starts at the LA Pit Aid Station (end of leg 2) and ends at Frater Lake Headquarters. You'll start off with a slight uphill run (300ish feet) for 4.3 miles of dirt road to 500 Aid Station. After passing 550 Aid Station, you'll be on amazing single track trail that winds like a roller coaster for 9 miles and finish at Frater. Herman's Half is mainly downhill (-1700ish) and has a generous 5 hour cut-off.

SERE Beer Mile

Kaniksu Ultras is proud to bring you the SERE Beer Mile. We’ve always wanted an experience that allows us to thank our volunteers as well as bring together our friends and families for a good time before we kick off a hard weekend of racing.

This event holds both a loaded (beer) and unloaded (beer substitute) category. The course will start in a transition area and progress onto an out-and-back run (200m/200m). Each competitor drinks four cans of beer and runs the course four times (START-beer, then lap, then beer, then lap, then beer, then lap, then beer, than lap – FINISH).

The beer must be consumed before the lap is begun, within the transition area which is the 10-meter zone before the start/finish. Beer cans must not be tampered with in any manner, ie. No shotgunning or puncturing of the can except for opening the can by the tab at the top. The same applies with bottles – no straws or other aids are allowed in order to aid in the speed of pouring. Beer can must NOT be opened until the competitor enters the transition zone on each lap.

Competitors must tip the empty beer can or bottle over their head at the end of a chug to verify the vessel is empty.

Competitors who can’t hold the loaded or unloaded beverage down before they finish the race must complete one penalty lap at the end of the race (immediately after the completion of their 4th lap.

We intend to conduct this event at the K50 and Emory Corwine Memorial Ruck Relay (ECMRR) Start/Finish area or the event campsite area. Regardless of the location, we will have volunteer (sober) drivers who can drive to either of those locations for SERE Beer Mile competitors.

Volunteering for the K50 or ECMRR gets you into this event for FREE.
