Kent Coastal Marathon

Philip Kinnill has been running the Kent Coastal Marathon since 1983. He then became the Race Director for the event and has served as so for 4 years now. How old is the race and why was it created in the first place? The Race first started in 1982 when the club started, we have missed 1 year as far as I can remember. §staticmap(1503,5) What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it? The course is very picturesque, overlooking the sea for a large proportion of the event, passing through Broadstairs where Charles Dickens stopped. Credit : thatwikiguy How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract? Last year we had 334 runners in the full race our biggest for years. Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances? There is no other events we run on this weekend it takes a lot of Marshals to run this event so the Half and the Full on at the same time is enough. At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect? The Weather in september is normally sunny with a wind in one direction for the runners, we have had very hot 3 years ago. The marathon finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Cliftonville before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing? There are plenty of B&B and Hotels to choose from. We have plenty of car parking spaces, a Railway station nearby, a big shopping centre on the edge of Broadstairs, towns of Ramsgate and Broadstairs to visit, 90% of the route you can see the sea. In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Kent Coastal Marathon? I ran the race the first time in 1983, the coarse has changed a lot over the years to try and make it nearly traffic free, we give the runners a medal a t shirt and goody bag at the end and prize money for the first male and female on both races, the Race starts at 9:30 September 5th 2010.
