Course highlights

Start and finish on the rich street in the old town of Füssen, Some three kilometres later, with the town left far behind, the runners could look forward to the rest of the run through the most beautiful countryside imaginable: across the Hopfer forest, round Lake Hopfensee, across the floodplain of the river Lech along the banks of Lake Forggensee, across lush green meadows and past the royal castles of Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau, through the Schwansee woodlands and on to the final sprint for the town again.

The scenery was spectacular, the race was very well organised and supported and the route fun and interesting.

It's well worth running this one. It was fun.

Fabulous event and well organised. Beautiful route, not too crowded, great supporter. One suggestion is it would be lovely to have more race details eg how many people in my age category, how many in my gender, etc. Also same details post race to a runners position to age, gender eg .

Route was amazing fantastic landscape and plentiful views of mountains and lakes. Arrangements to pick up number etc was very well organised and was easy to understand. Crowds were friendly with a great finishing atmosphere through the town.

The distance seemed not to matter as the views gave you a good distraction and at the finish line you are met by cheering locals sitting cheering you on.

Very well organized race. Scenic route along the lakes, not much asphalt, so I recommend it to trail runners too. I was absolutely amazed by the horns that were played around the last lake (around 34 km. of the route). They created a fantastic atmosphere like in a movie where they play the horns before a battle (very motivating for a faster finish). 10 k and half marathon took place on Saturday and marathon on Sunday.

Results: Schmidt runs away with it in Bavaria

23 Jul, 2015 (Thu)

Marathon results Paul Schmidt finished almost 25 minutes ahead of a nearly 500 runner field to win the 15th annual Konigsschlosser Romantik Lauf Marathon in East Allgau of Bavaria. Schmidt crosses the German country side, castles included, working through woodlands and past a pair of lakes in a convincing 2:27:29. A mark still almost eight minutes off the record of 2:19:08 set by Titus Kosjei in 2010. Runner-up Marco Diehl was next to show, finishing with a time of 2:52:18. Frank Merrbach (2:53:48) made it in just a step ahead of Pierre Fournier (2:53:51) for third. For the women, it was Doris Marquardt in dominating fashion. Taking first with a time of 3:03:04, Marquardt crossed the finish line just shy of 15 minutes faster than the next best finisher. Runner-up Maria Magdalena (3:18:02) managed to hold off Karen Sobrino (3:18:41) for second.
