About the event

Take to the streets and parks on July 4th to celebrate America and the promise of America with the Liberty and Justice for All Virtual 5k.  Wear your American flag apparel, your red, white, and blue laces, dress-up like an eagle, or whatever else that screams "America!" for you.  And let yourself run as free as the eagle flies.  Whether you are walking, jogging or sprinting, show the world you are America's people in all its sweaty glory.  And have fun (maybe run to a BBQ?!?)

Registration is only $13.00 in honor of the Original 13 Colonies.

Race Timing
Use any app or stop watch to keep your own time.  You can email us your race time or send us a screen capture from your app, with your name, to [email protected].  You may also self-enter your time in the results page once you complete the race.

Finisher Medals
All participants will receive a commemorative finisher's race medal. Medals are sent in the mail 24 hours after the race.

Race Results
Race results will become available as they are received on Sunday July 4, 2021 - Results will be available on this race webpage and on delizrunning.com.

About Us
Deliz Running was founded with the express purpose of returning 5k racing to its affordable roots.  Running is free, we just want to encourage more people to do it. We strongly believe a 5k race should be accessible to all and should serve as an introduction to competitive running and a training ground for those who want to make running part of their lifestyle.  With every race we strive to provide a quality course,  with performance awards, at the most affordable price we can manage.

FAQ:

Do runners get t-shits? - No, while many race organizers provide t-shirts, we do not.  We are not anti-tshirt, but because our goal is to make the race affordable, we have found that t-shirts are expensive at our scale of production.  To provide affordable t-shirts we would need to charge upwards of $30 per race and we are trying hard to keep our race cost closer to $15 per registration.

Why is there a donation option? Beyond the registration fee, donations are not necessary to participate.  However, in past  races some of our more affluent participants have donated money to keep the races affordable for everyone else.  People donate what they can, if they wish to do so, and it keeps our operation going.

Where does the registration and donation money go? Each race, whether virtual or physical, incurs certain common costs such as venue reservation, insurance coverage, security, medical assistance, race equipment and its maintenance, food and drinks for runners, etc.

Why not make the race free to all? There are two reasons why the races are not free.  The first is that Deliz Running is operated by a teacher and a librarian who are happily married and happily broke, so we simply cannot afford to put on the races without registration fees.  The second reason is that we have found that when we extend complimentary registration, the participants are less likely to show up.  There's not enough room here to discuss the psychology at work in that but to say that when participants pay they likely feel an obligation to get up and run, perhaps for no other reason than the fact that they paid to run.  Therefore charging the minimal nominal amount helps to increase participation.

Are refunds available?  Not generally.  It is standard practice in running events to not provide refunds.  The reason for this is that the costs of hosting the event (venue costs  insurance costs, medals, etc.) have to be paid  by the race organizers long before the race takes place, meaning that the money is already spent on the event.  If you know you will miss a race that you have registered for, we will gladly transfer your reservation to another future race at no cost.  Transfer requests should be made as soon as possible but no later than 24hrs after the race.

What happens if I register for a virtual event and do not actually run it, or I do not submit my finishing time?  All paid registered participants will receive a finisher's medal for the race, unless they request to transfer their registration to another race (no later than 24hours after the race closing).   Those who could not participate will receive a medal that says "Race Supporter" in the back label of the medal instead of a finish time.
