Please join DAI in supporting the Linda Norgrove Foundation by participating in the 2018 Linda Norgrove 5k Run/Walk. Started in 2010, the Linda Norgrove Foundation seeks to continue the work of the late Linda Norgrove, a DAI employee who devoted herself to ensuring that the people of Afghanistan can achieve prosperity and stability as their country is rebuilt. The Foundation provides grants focused primarily on Afghan women and children’s education, healthcare, and childcare.
This year, we have received a request to provide surgical and social care to 8 disadvantaged girls suffering from cardiac, orthopedic and other diseases, and 5 vulnerable women suffering from gynecological pathologies. These girls and women will be treated for free at FMIC and, as they come from different provinces, they will be hosted for several days at the Pavilion, a reception and accommodation center where they, and their accompanying relative will stay in a friendly and peaceful place. All of their ’social’ expenses are paid for such as transport, accommodation, food, pajamas, hygiene products and small consumables. Follow up treatment is also covered with patients usually monitored at least one year after their operation, or, if necessary, long-term follow up.
The criteria for patients is that they come from remote areas, are in absolute need of treatment which is not possible in their home province, and the economic vulnerability of the family.
