With the uncertainty of what will take place in October and the economic toll that all communities have had to endure because of COVID-19, it has been decided that the 2020 Maddie’s Miles will be a virtual challenge event.
There will be no set number of miles that will need to be completed.  This challenge event is to encourage everyone to get out and move for as many miles possible. Our hope is to help motivate people to be active, while still helping a much needed cause.  We will have overall winners for most miles logged in the month for Adults and Children 12 and under.

If you would rather opt out of the challenge portion, you do not have to log in your miles.  You can just, register, get an awesome t-shirt and walk/run on your own, without sharing your miles online.

We will have a t-shirt pick up day to help offset the cost of shipping shirts.  T-shirt pick- up location and time-TBA later.  We will also have the option available to ship t-shirts- for an added cost to help cover shipping.
Opioid related deaths in the U.S have increased by 30% since the COVID-19 pandemic began, due to social distancing, unemployment and increased economic stress. We cannot stop our efforts!  Those affected by addiction need our help even more now.

Regardless of your personal thoughts and opinions about addiction, it is just so important to remember, that every overdose is someone’s child and overdoses are preventable.
My amazing, intelligent, talented and beautiful daughter Madison “Maddie” Marini, struggled with addiction for many years. Limited resources, financial obstacles and the undeniable Stigma that still exists today, made her road to recovery not possible. Maddie had hopes and dreams of attending college and becoming a forensic anthropologist. She was nicknamed “Bones” after her favorite TV show character, who played a forensic anthropologist.  Maddie was always so intrigued by the thought of being able to find out what might have happened to people, so that she would be able to give families answers and closure about their loved ones.  Never did I ever imagine, I would be the one needing answers and closure.  When Maddie walked into a room, you might not have known who she was, but you never forgot her. She had the most vibrant personality that commanded the entire room.
Tragically, on December 29th, 2016, at the very young age of 22, Maddie lost her battle with addiction and died from an accidental overdose. There are truly no words that can describe the immense pain in my heart and the ache I carry every moment of each day, from missing and wanting her back so badly.  Maddie

Proceeds from the Maddie’s Miles event will go to support Phoenix Rising of Winston Salem, Inc, a non-profit group whose mission is to battle addiction by supporting local drug courts; funding treatment; and launching awareness campaigns so that no more lives will be lost to addiction and accidental overdose’s
