Riley's Rumble Half Marathon

28 Apr, 2011 (Thu)

§staticmap(5495,7,450,250)Hello, on August 7th 2011, you’ll be organizing the Riley’s Rumble Half Marathon. Can you tell us where it is located? The race is located in a rural setting about 1/2 hour drive North of Washington D.C. How old is the race and why was it created in the first place? The race has been around since 1983, it was originally a 20K. What kind of route have you set up for the runners? How would you describe it? The mostly tree shaded course is primarily an out and back with quite a few hills. How many runners do you expect on Sunday morning? What type of runners do you plan to attract? We are anticipating between 750-1000 runners this year depending on weather conditions. Credit : Mark Zimmermann Do you organize other races during the Week-End? If so, on what distances? Our club (MCCRC) conducts a variety of races ranging from 5K- Half Marathons. Races may range from hundreds to several thousand participants. At that time of the year, what kind of weather can we expect? Be prepared for hot and humid conditions hence the 7AM start time. Have you planned festivities around the half marathon? None other than refreshments for the race participants and volunteers. The race finished, what advice would you give a runner who has never been to Boyds before? A good restaurant, a fancy sightseeing? Since, we are in the Washington D.C. metropolitan area there are plenty of restaurants and sightseeing opportunities. In a single sentence, what would you tell the readers of ahotu Marathons to make them register for the Riley’s Rumble Half Marathon? This race is excellent preparation for fall racing season such as a marathon. Interview with Joel Carrier, Race Director
