Thank you for your patience as we work through the current struggle of organizing an event. Pre-registration is now open for the June 5th-6th 2021 event. As you can probably understand we won’t know until closer to the day, if we will be allowed to host the event. Currently based on the governors guidance for events, we are allowed to hold the event at full capacity. The guidance requires wave starts, and everyone to wear a face covering at all times, among other restrictions. This guidance may, and most likely will change. We have the main permit from the Forest Service, but there are 4 others that we need to obtain, among other factors. We will do our best to hold the race on the existing course, but there are no guarantees, and the race may be canceled at anytime.
If you were registered in 2020, your entries have rolled over to the 2021 event. To redeem your entry, complete registration with the email address you use for Ultra Signup. This will zero out the entry fee at checkout.
If you are signing up for the first time. Please send us your endurance resume first, check website for details. When you pre-register, your card will not be charged at this time. When we get closer to the event, we will notify you before processing payments.
The Mount Baker Ultra is a 56 mile out and back foot race from the town of Concrete Washington to Mount Baker’s Sherman peak at 10,160ft (3,097m). Concrete sits at an elevation of 276ft. The course follows forest service roads for the first 20 miles reaching 3,300ft at snowline. Over the next 6 miles you will climb another 6,800ft to reach the summit of Sherman peak. The race starts at 12:00 AM and finishes the same day at 6:00 PM and has an 18 hour cutoff.
Sherman peak is the second highest peak on Mount Baker, with Grant peak being the highest by another 621ft. Sherman peak is on the list of “Top 100 Washington Peaks”
The course covers 46 miles of forest service roads, roughly 7 miles of snow trail and over 3 miles of glacier travel. All glacier travel will require participants to wear a harness and be clipped into fixed ropes for the entirety of the glacier section. This is an extreme mountain event, weather, elevation and exhaustion add to it’s difficulty. High winds, freezing temperatures, snow, rain, lightning and avalanches may occur at anytime.
