New Paltz Challenge

The New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce is proud to present its 9th Annual New Paltz Challenge!  The 2018 edition will be held on Father's Day, Sunday, June 17, 2018.

Pick your challenge!  Choose from a Half-Marathon, Family 5K, and/or kid's 1-mile run. The half-marathon features challenging running along the scenic Wallkill Valley Rail Trail south through the Yard Owl Brewery, and offers runners a bucolic New Paltz landscape with sweeping views of the Shawangunk Ridge, the town of Gardiner, farms, the Wallkill River, and Historic Huguenot Street, a National Historic Landmark District.  The 5k runs along Historic Huguenot Street and the Walkill Valley Rail Trail.  This race is a combination of trail and road race.

The half-marathon features * chip timing*. All races have* water stops* first place in age group prizes* post-race refreshments* plus all half-marathon finishers will receive medals or other commemorative memento.

Half-Marathon: Will be timed in 5 year age groups and the 5K will be timed in 10 year age groups.  Early bird registration ends on Sunday, April 15, 2018.  Half-marathon registration closes on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 and will be capped at 600.  

5K: Will be timed in 10 year age groups. Early bird registration ends on Sunday, April 15, 2018.

1-mile kid’s race: Children ages 5-13 can participate in a fun 1-mile out and back run on the rail trail after the awards ceremony around 10:00am.

Proceeds to benefit the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce and its community projects. 

Event details and schedule

The race starting time is 7:30 am for the 1/2 marathon, 8:00 am the 5K.  This kids 1 mile fun run will be after the awards ceremony at 10:00am.  The races start at the Gilded Otter parking lot in downtown New Paltz along the Walkill River. The 1/2 Marathon is capped to 600 persons due to the size of the trail. There will be same day registration for the ½ Marathon, 5k, and kids fun run on race day, and at packet pickup on Saturday, June 16th.

Registration and packet pick up will open at the Gilded Otter parking lot on Saturday 6/16/18 from 12:00pm-4:00pm, and on race day starting at 6:00am at the Gilded Otter parking lot.

Technical t-shirts are included for all 1/2 marathoners who register on or before 4/15/17.  5K racers and racers who register after the cut off time can purchase tech race shirts for $20.00.  The 1/2 marathon course will close at 10:30 am, so if you would like to walk the half marathon please start earlier and self-time.  

There are no strollers or dogs allowed during any of the races.
