About the event

OOTYULTRA is an annual ultramarathon organized by KaysFIT Academy, founded by Kannan Sundararajan (Coach Kay) and the Race Director. It is a challenging road running event with steep up and down gradients, suitable for both amateur runners and those passionate about ultramarathons, with four categories 90k, 60k, 30k and 15k. The race will take you through the streets of Ooty, key landmarks, wooded forests and rural roads, as you ascend to the second highest peak in South India and take in the stunning scenery. It is also strategically timed to coincide with the longest training runs for the Comrades Marathon in South Africa, with some of the Comrades runners featured on the website's Inspiration page. 30 km

This was my first time running at this ultramalaivasi Ooty Ultra run. I ran 30K barefoot. I had a great running experience, be it the name carved medals, well-supported aid stations, splendid views across the race route, and the meticulous communication from the race director on every aspect of the race. I would highly recommend this race to anyone who would like to run on hills with great inclines and at the same time, want to run on a scenic route.

This is a sweet spot distance for those who have not trained enough to do 60K run in this terrain while at the same time, they would like to run more than the 15K distance.

This was my first hill run 30km; I have not enjoyed anything so much. The second ascent was grueling. However, the scenery was blissful and I was quite ecstatic during parts of the race. This is the second edition of the run and there were 3 times the runners compared to the first edition; I think purely due to this volume were some starting troubles - mainly, some of the volunteers in the initial aid stations did not know how to pour ORS and they ran out; but this was very switly remedied. There was excellent medical help available with volunteers driving around the tough/hot second ascent asking if anyone needed water etc. and a simple but nice power breakfast/mini lunch and recovery tent with physiotherapist to stretch your muscles at the finish. Coach Kay is quite charismatic and is full of useful, interesting information and hints. He warned us about the toughest uphill/downhill stretches and this helped me plan my run (or walk lol) The medal is the icing on the top; lovely design and personalized with your given name!!! I plan to go next year with at least 2 others from my family and possibly friends. Hope this event grows; very well done.
