Orphans versus Lost Souls

Note:  Orphans versus Lost Souls ?! How did we come up with this race?

This is the second RaBa Cinco series event with lots of intriguing angles including a bit of adventure and just the right amount of challenge beyond the "garden variety" 5K. Best of all, it levels the field for males and females so that everyone competes in one division with women completing a 5K run (3.1 miles) while men journey for 3.5 miles. At least according to theory, males and females arrive at the finish line together precisely at the Huerfano (translation Orphan) County/Las Animas (Lost Souls) County line on gravel road turf Las Animas County Road 41.4. Everyone from everywhere is welcome, but residents of the 3 county Raton Basin area (including Colfax County, NM) automatically score points in the ongoing RaBa Cinco team competition. Individual awards will be made to the top four finishers regardless of team affiliation. In addition, a few surprises will be available to celebrate this terrific Colorado scenery and this unique event. Can you imagine a Lost Souls T-shirt, for instance? And what would we feed the hungry Orphans post race?  Assembly, race instructions, and late registration, take place at 146 West Main Street in Aguilar, CO, in the park area near the Library from to 7 to 7:30 a.m. with the race start at 8:00.
