RACE ANNOUNCEMENT 04/30/2020
It is with the deepest regret that we pass along this announcement from Burke Recovery. We know it was a difficult decision to make, but given the uncertainties arising from the current pandemic — no one can be sure circumstances in the fall will be appreciably better than they are now — we feel it is the right decision. Welcoming people from all over the U.S. and abroad and throwing them together just doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. The safer thing for everyone involved is to remember that this is just a race, and that time is on our side if we plan responsibly. 2021 isn’t that far away so let’s put this on pause and plan to get together again when the worst thing to expect is a turned ankle, a scraped knee, or a mild case of dehydration. Your health, and the health of our volunteers, means everything. Let’s do this right, and do it safely.
That said, here’s the announcement from Burke Recovery:
Thank you to all who have supported Burke Recovery through the Peak to Creek Marathon in years past and to those who were planning to do so once again. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic is felt at every level in our agency and lives as we are sure it is in yours as well. It is with heavy hearts that we have to announce the cancellation of the event. What we will miss most is the looks of triumph, the smiles of victory, the tears of determination and the whoops of excitement as you cross that finish line. You are all included in our prayers for a healing world in this troubled time. Please stay safe and well. If you would like to know more about Burke Recovery or stay involved in any of our outreach programs, you can check us out online at www.burkerecovery.com or via Facebook at www.facebook.com/BurkeRecovery
Look for us again in 2021. We will be back.
