The PUNA INCA TRAIL is a 200 (or 122) km race over 7 days in dry climate, at high altitude (between 2700 and 4200 m amsl) The race takes place in the beautiful areas of the QUEBRADA de HUMAHUACA (Cultural Heritage and Natural Asset of
Humanity) and of the high altitude desert of PUNA del ATACAMA – Provinces of Salta and Jujuy, Argentina. The terrain consists of mountain, desert, and single tracks. Competitors carry obligatory items during the race (see §5.a.), their personal energy bars and gels as they wish, and a minimum of 2 litres of water and/or pre-mixed electrolyte drinks.
