The Back Road Brigade Running Club is sponsoring the Race the Sun Relay, which is a marathon relay (26.2 miles) that is being run on the rail trail in beautiful downtown Pewamo, MI. Teams can consist of 3-5 members in order to cover the distance. The start and finish will be the Pewamo Trailhead Welcome Center, which sits right on the rail trail. The course will consist of a down and back loop of 2.62 miles heading west down the trail and ending back at the start and another 2.62 mile loop heading east and looping back to the start. Each team will run ten 2.62 mile loops and can make exchanges at any 2.62 mile interval in which they choose. Team members are not required to run equal distances. The goal of this relay is to allow a large variety of runners to participate and have a positive experience while raising valuable funds for two worth charities. The benefactors of this year’s event are the Pewamo Westphalia High School Cross Country/Track team and Mother Teresa House. A clock will be running to keep track of overall time, however individual splits will not be kept nor will overall team times. Because this is treated as more of an event than a competition, no awards will be given out. Each participant will receive a moisture wicking shirt as well as access to light refreshments and snacks and discounted food and drinks at local Pewamo establishments. The first leg of the relay will start at 5:30 pm. For safety reasons, we will be shutting down the course at 10:00 pm.
