The Right to Birth 5k and Womb Walk is a health and wellness event focused on raising awareness for birthing rights of individuals in Oklahoma
What does “birthing rights” mean?
Birthing rights refers to the rights of expecting individuals and their families to choose how, when and where to give birth, under the care of providers and under the circumstances they have chosen with their own free will and fully informed consent.
Can anyone run the race?
Yes! All fitness levels, genders, and ages are welcome. Pregnancy and postpartum is not a reason to abstain from the race if it is safe for you to do so and you are not uncomfortable doing so. (Please discuss your indivdual circumstances with your care provider before running! We want everyone to stay safe and have fun.)
Run for your wives, run for your partners, run for your sisters, daughters, mothers, friends, run for yourselves. Run for the rights of future generations to feel empowered- not traumatized, not coerced, not trivialized- by their birthing experiences.
What does registration include?
Your registration to the 5k (3.1 mile) run includes a swag bag from participating vendors/sponsors and an event t-shirt.
What is the Womb Walk?
The Womb Walk is a one-mile family event designed for those who do not desire to complete the full 5k (3.1 mile) run, but would still like to walk to raise awareness. Strollers, wagons, and dogs (who don’t mind strollers and wagons) are welcome.
What is going on after the Right to Birth Run and Womb Walk events?
Hang around after the event for fitness meet-ups with our yoga and zumba instructors. Food trucks will be on site to replenish all those burned calories and local birth professionals will be displaying their products/services in our vendor area, ready to answer any questions participants may have about why they and their consumers are so passionate about protecting birthing rights for Oklahoman families.
Proceeds for this event will go to the Oklahomans 4 Midwives who are working passionately to protect midwifery access for birthing individuals in Oklahoma. For the first time in many years, legislation to regulate midwives was introduced at the state level this year and #Ok4Midwives believes that no legislation should interfere with the freedom to choose one’s maternity care provider and place of birth. To follow their campaign, receive legislative alerts, get involved and donate to the cause, join the Oklahomans for Midwives Facebook group: www.tinyurl.com/ok4midwives.
The Right to Birth 5k and Womb Walk is proud to support Oklahomans for Midwives and will be hosting an informational booth for their benefit at the event.
