The Over the Hill Race has been so named based on the rolling terrain of the Penn State Fayette campus. It will include a run, walk, and age-graded results. This is the only race of its kind in Pennsylvania. The grading will be done at the start of the race, rather than when the results are tallied. Overall awards will be given to the top three male and females across the finish line. Age group awards will be given, too.
Note: the walk will not be age-graded.
We have also asked the principals in the Fayette County elementary schools to challenge their students to a 1K Fitness Challenge. They have responded. We look forward to hosting the county kids and their principals in this active event in partnership with the Fayette County Drug and Alcohol Commission. The event will serve as a pre-kickoff for red ribbon week. Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco, and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign observed annually in October. This year’s week will be October 22-26 in Fayette County.
The event will not only serve as a fitness challenge for all ages, but will also introduce other principles of a healthy and happy lifestyle to our youth.
