We are excited to announce the fourth annual RoundTable Wellness Walk this fall to bring awareness and support to those affected by eating disorders and body concerns in our community. Per the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) body concerns often begin at a young age, and individuals “who experience high levels of body dissatisfaction feel their bodies are flawed in comparison to others, and these folks are more likely to suffer from feelings of depression, isolation, low self-esteem, and eating disorders”. With that said, RoundTable Wellness aims prevention efforts at promoting size diversity, body acceptance, and a healthier body image for all ages, genders, races, abilities, etc. This year’s walk is about being kind to one’s true self. Be real, be true, be kind, be you.
ALL proceeds from this event will be donated to Bauer Family Resources – a local organization here in the Greater Lafayette Area. Bauer’s mission is, “Creating brighter tomorrows by strengthening children and families today.” Teaching children to be kind and be true to themselves gives hope for change in the future. Empowering today’s children and creating ties to the community will foster the ability in those children to fight against the diet culture and unrealistic expectations tomorrow.
The 2018 RoundTable Wellness Walk will be held on Sunday, September 9th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Cumberland Park in West Lafayette, Indiana. RoundTable Wellness is excited to organize this event to raise funds in support of a much needed, local cause. Sharing an afternoon together with family and friends demonstrates our community’s support for children and adults suffering from eating disorders and other mental health related issues, while sponsoring a local caregiving resource.
