Run 4 Beigel

Run 4 Beigel is a race organized by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Cross Country team to honor a teacher, Cross Country coach, and Camp Starlight counselor: Scott Beigel. He died a hero on February 14th, 2018.

Scott Beigel truly loved his job as a teacher, yet coaching the cross country team was often the highlight of his day. He brought humor, strategy, and insight to the athletes, who quickly grew very fond of him. He was someone who looked out for both the top runners and the underdogs, and this quality carried into every aspect of his life. His altruism made him an extraordinarily well-liked and respected man.

As much as Scott Beigel enjoyed his life in Parkland, his favorite time of the year was summer, when he would attend Camp Starlight as a counselor. He spent over 25 summers at Camp Starlight, first as a camper and later as a counselor. He was inspired by the tendency of summer camp to teach about kindness, friendship, teamwork, and other important values.

On February 1st, 2020, we hope to honor Scott Beigel by raising money for a cause he was passionate about -100% of the funds raised will be donated to the Scott J. Beigel Memorial Fund. This charity sends underprivileged children affected by gun violence to summer camp, bringing them positive memories and lessons. More importantly, it keeps them out of harm's way during the summertime, which can become dangerous since they are outside the usual safety of a school environment.

Packet pick up: Runner's Depot (Coral Springs location). January 29th & 30th 12-6PM  Sign-ups and packet pickup will also be available on the day of the race starting at 7AM in the Amphitheater area @ Pine Trails Park.
