Run For Legionary Vocations Virtual 5 K Run/Walk Challenge

Join us for our 1st Annual Run for Legionary Vocations Virtual 5K Run/Walk Challenge benefitting the Legionaries of Christ Novitiate and College of Humanities and Sacred Heart Apostolic School.

You will complete your 5K course by running or walking a course of your choosing anytime, anywhere between May 29, 2021 and September 5, 2021.  Simply keep your time on the FREE RaceJoy App and submit it to our page on RunSignup.  Or signup up for the Open mileage challenge and see how many miles you can run from May 29 to September 5, 2021.

By joining our race, you are committing to support 97 young men who are following God’s call for their lives to the priesthood.  100% of your donation to enter our race will be used to fund scholarships for our seminarians at Novitiate and College of Humanities in Cheshire, Connecticut and the students at the Sacred Heart Apostolic School in Rolling Prairie, Indiana.

This walk/run/challenge gives you a chance to join these young men on their journey. They are training everyday to become priests. Walk or run a mile alongside them. A great thing about a race is that there is always another starting line. Sometimes we falter along the way, but tomorrow always gives us a new chance. These young men have to listen to the call God is making to their hearts each day. It is also a race. It takes endurance, perseverance and heart.

By running, you run with them as they seek the prize promised by Christ. (cf. Phil. 3:14) By walking, you walk with them as they walk with God. (cf. Eph. 2:10) By accepting the challenge, you encourage them to face the challenges the vocation entails.

You can be one of the workers bringing in the Lord’s harvest. (cf. Mt. 9:37) Walk with them. Run with them. Accompany them on their journey to the priesthood.

A run for vocations is a way to support this cause and help them reach their goal. Help us reach our goal! You can do it.

We thank you for your support and remember you as these young men continue their run for the prize. (cf. Phil. 3:14)

How does a Virtual Fun Run/Walk work?

Rather than having a set date, time and location, you complete your distance anytime, anywhere, between Saturday May 29 and Sunday, September 5th.

Legion of Christ Novitiate & College of Humanities is partnering with RaceJoy App to register and track your participation.  By using RaceJoy, participants also can record official race times for use in future race events.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Where will the race be held?
Anywhere that works for you! The biggest priority is your health and safety, so it is recommended that you run on a smooth surface. Please keep a safe distance away from traffic of all kinds and follow social-distancing guidelines.

Is there a race packet that I need to pick up?
No. One of the benefits of a virtual race is that there is no need to pick up a race packet. Create your virtual bib via the RaceJoy app when setting up your tracking.

How do I track my timing and completion?
To automatically have your running/walking included in the Fun Run/Walk—or to record an official time for use in other races—you will need to download the RaceJoy app to your phone and activate tracking on the day(s) that you complete your race. Through RaceJoy, access  the Run for Vocations Fun Run/Walk event, select “I Want to Be Tracked,” and follow the on-screen prompts. If you need additional assistance, RaceJoy has a How-To Guide with setup instructions.

Do I need to complete the entire race in one try?

No. While a 5K is typically accomplished in one attempt, we understand that not everyone is able to complete the 5K distance or more in one outing. The point is to get up, get moving, and have fun!

Will there be prizes for placing in the race?
The top runners will be announced after the close of the event. All registered participants who have completed their chosen distance and submitted their results will receive a downloadable certificate.

I see that the race goes on for multiple days. Do I have to compete each day?
We only ask that you complete a cumulative 5K distance once. Multiple days allows you to choose a time that works best for your schedule and/or allows you split your race distance across multiple days!
