Run Like Hale Campus 5K

In February 1996, Gwen Hale was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. She beat (the HALE) out of it and went on to pursue her career in teaching. She has been the Writing Center Director at the University of Mary Washington for 5 years, dedicating her life to helping her students and sharing her love for writing. Gwen has created an environment full of happiness, coffee, tea, and candy; she is truly a friend to all.
In September of 2016, she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer -- again. Not surprisingly, Gwen has been fighting with a smile, not skipping a beat and doing everything she can to be available for her students. If you know Gwen, or have ever had the pleasure of speaking with her, you know that she just wants to give. Recently, Gwen received the amazing news that she is in fact BEATING cancer (again). After an incredible Booster campaign of selling t-shirts and sharing Gwen's story, we managed to raise $3,380 for the American Cancer Society.

To the entire (extended) UMW community, please join us in celebrating the lives and hearts of all cancer fighters and survivors as the Writing Center and SEA host the 2nd Annual Run Like Hale 5K. In the words of Dr. Gwen Hale, "We don't have time for cancer... we have writing to do."
