The 2021 Salem Lakeshore Frosty Fifty 50K & 25K will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 and race registration will open on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at 8:00 am. This is a well-supported 50k and 25k around beautiful Salem Lake in the outskirts of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Registration will be capped at 400 participants total for the combined 50K and 25K races. There will not be a 50K relay this year. Participants will be divided into start waves of no more than the allowable number of people per NC and local regulations on the day of the race. Wave staging areas will be kept separate from each other and participants are not allowed in or near waves they are not assigned to. Race wave logistics will be designed to facilitate social distancing before and during the race start.
Participants are required to wear a mask when not running, including the time waiting in waves for the race start. Masks should not be removed until the participant begins to run.
Participants will be asked for an approximate race time for similar distance races during registration for use in wave assignments. 50K participants are asked to enter an approximate marathon race time. 25K participants are asked to enter an approximate half marathon race time.
Participants are encouraged to bring their own water/sports drink. There will be water and sports drink available in 3 places on the race course. Several other precautions will be put into place in response to the COVID-19 pandemic so that we are compliant or better than government regulations and following the best advice of public health experts.
Registration will close at midnight on Saturday, December 26. You must preregister to participate. No race day registration.
The race begins and ends at the marina/office in 4,000 square feet overlooking the lake. Wear distinct colors and have your fans bring binoculars to spot you across the lake. If the weather is warmer than the 11 degrees it’s been in the past, the large deck area provides ample seating, views, food and music.
The course is a loop around Salem Lake (7 miles) with an out-and-back trail add-on so that each loop is 12.5k. You will run on a wide rolling dirt trail around the wooded shoreline of Salem Lake with a small portion on a paved bike path along Salem Creek. This is a very spectator-friendly event. The average temperature in early January is a high of 49 and a low of 29.
All finishers will receive finisher medallions.
T-shirts are guaranteed to those who registered before December 11th. This will be a long sleeve tech shirt in male/female sizes.
The 50K finish line will stay open until 3:00 pm (7 hours).
