Sandy's Superheroes 5K

About This Event:

SANDY'S SUPERHEROES 5K is an event to benefit Sandy Allen and ALS research. Sandy was the Children's Center Director for North Avenue Church for the past 10+ years. She has been an active member in her community
and in her church, always doing for others and going out of her way to make everyone feel welcome and loved. Sandy began walking for health 4 years ago and enjoyed doing 5k races with friends and family for fun. Sandy has completed over 10 5Ks. Sandy was diagnosed two years ago with ALS. Just recently, Sandy's disease has progressed to the point where she can no longer walk/jog and can only do 5k races in her motorized wheelchair that she controls with her left foot. This race is dedicated to Sandy with proceeds going to her and her family to help offset medical expenses. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the ALS Research.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (a-mi-o-TROE-fik LAT-ur-ul skluh-ROE-sis), or ALS, is a nervous system (neurological) disease that causes muscle weakness and impacts physical function. ALS is often called Lou Gehrig's disease, after the famous baseball player who was diagnosed with it. ALS is a type of motor neuron disease that causes nerve cells to gradually break down and die. In the United States, ALS is sometimes called motor neuron disease. In most cases, doctors don't know why ALS occurs. A small number of cases are inherited. ALS often begins with muscle twitching and weakness in an arm or leg, or sometimes with slurring of speech. Eventually, ALS can affect your ability to control the muscles needed to move, speak, eat and breathe. ALS cannot be cured and eventually leads to death.

September 11, 2016 - Same Day Packet Pickup and Late Registration:  12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m.
September 11, 2016 - 5K Start Time:  2:00 p.m.
 

Registration Fees:

Early Registration $30 - Early Registration Ends on September 09, 2016 (11:59 pm) **Includes T-shirt
Same Day Registration $35 **Not gauranteed to be delivered by race day but will be delivered post-race.
  

T-Shirts:

Participants will recieve their t-shirts the day of the race. Participants who register the day of the race are not guaranteed a t-shirt.
