About the event

Another year in the books! The Fourth Annual Skinny Turkey 5K/10K Race was held on November 20, 2021 with a total of $7602.39 donated to Second Chance Shelter. We were excited to see returning participants as well as some new faces. The Boaz Parks and Recreation Department wants to thank everyone that participated in this event as a sponsor, volunteer, or runner/walker. None of this could have happened without the support of the community! This year, we are excited to announce the Fifth Annual Skinny Turkey 5K/10K Race will take place Saturday, November 19, 2022! We want to make this year bigger than ever to celebrate FIVE years of the Skinny Turkey! Our Diamond Sponsor, Peoples Independent Bank, presents this event.

As always, this event is all about Second Chance Shelter. They are a non-profit, no-kill dog shelter and so much more! They have amazing sponsor and foster programs for those who are not interested in adoption. Doug and Wanda McGee started Second Chance Shelter in 2008 and they have grown to house and care for over 250 dogs at a time. Their passion for animals is not only obvious but infectious.

Come join us for the Fifth Annual Skinny Turkey 5K/10K Race and run off those extra holiday pounds through the beautiful Boaz area. The route will follow through Snead State Community College, the Boaz SportsPlex, and Boaz Elementary School on all paved roads with some small hills. The 5K and 10K will begin and end at the Boaz Neighborhood Center (314 N King St.) with water stations along the route. Finisher medals will be given at the finish line and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each age group (male and female) will receive prizes at the awards ceremony. There will be no refunds, the race will be held rain or shine!

We will have packet pick up Thursday, November 17th, 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM and Friday, November 18th 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM at the Boaz Neighborhood Center. Participants can also pick up packets Saturday, November 19th (race day morning) from 6:00 AM - 7:30 AM. The race is administered by the Boaz Parks and Recreation Department.
