Event size: (Max 1000 participants)
About the event
On July 17th, 2015 come to Shillong, Meghalaya and run the Sohra Marathon. It will take you through mist-covered valleys, quaint villages and fantastic views of rolling hills before we reach Sohra or Cherrapunjee, which once, received the heaviest rainfall on Earth. We are going to run amidst the clouds hence this event has been aptly named, “Abode of Running in the Clouds”. While the rest of the country is simmering in the Indian summer of July, come run a cooler weather marathon in the hills of Sohra and experience Meghalaya’s rich culture alongside.
The Sohra Marathon stands out as one of the most scenic marathon routes in India. The route starts from 7th, Mile at Upper Shillong and ends in Sohra (or Cherrapunji - well known for the heaviest rainfall in the world). There are many interesting sights along the way. Runners will pass quaint villages with small old huts and be greeted by gentle villagers. They will climb hills and run down slopes, cross bridges and run along rivers. The most striking of these experiences are the views offered if the mist allows it. Most of the route in July is shrouded in a mysterious mist that leaves you wondering what is around the corner. However, in certain pockets there are holes in the clouds and if one is lucky you can see undulating hills and steep gorges. It is truly a marathon of a lifetime.
