The following is a list of general measures we are taking in order to help protect the health and safety of both participants and race personnel.  More specific COVID measures are in the sections they apply to, below.  As the situation is fluid, this page may be updated.  Please make sure to add [email protected] to your address book in order to receive important email updates.

This race is capped at 50 participants total, the sum of both 12-hour and 24-hour runners on the track at one time.In the 14 days prior to the event if you 1) experience COVID-19 symptoms, or 2) test positive for COVID-19, or 3) come in close contact with a confirmed or suspected COVID-19 case, you may not attend the event.Only registered runners with their race bib pinned to the front of their shirt will be permitted in the race staging area, and up to two guests per runner total throughout the entirety of the event.Face coverings and physical distancing (min. 6 ft.) are mandatory at all times in the race staging area.Prior to the race start until the start signal is given, runners will stand on rows of marks spaced 6ft. apart leading up to the start line. Face coverings are required during the race only when physical distancing is not possible. If you experience COVID-19 symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 in the 14 days following the event, you must notify us immediately.

A scenic, flat and fast 2.95-mile paved pathway around Rockland Lake, accurately measured USATF certified course.  The entire loop was repaved in 2020 and is in excellent shape – smooth, flat, no bumps, cracks or potholes.  About 50% of the course is shaded, 50% exposed.  Start and race staging area are near Parking field 5.

IMPORTANT:  Headlamps are mandatory after dark, there are no lights on the course.  Participants in the 24-hour race and the overnight 12-hour race must bring their own headlamps and spare batteries.

Lap counting will be done manually by race staff.  Please ensure your race bib is visible on the front of your torso (not your side, leg, back etc.) each time you pass the counting station, otherwise your laps won’t be counted!

Note:  Mile 1 and Mile 2 points on the loop will be USATF certified, and monitored for the 20 minutes before the race ends, so runners will receive credit for one (or two) additional miles in case they do not complete a full final loop before the race ends.

Due to COVID-19, all liquids will be in sealed bottles, food and snacks in sealed containers or bags.  Items will be laid out on tables by race staff, participants will need to take the items from the tables themselves, race personnel will not hand items to participants.

All food and snacks are for registered runners only – helpers will need to bring their own.

There will be one well-stocked main aid station in the race staging area, and two basic aid stations along the loop (near mile 1 and mile 2 points) with bottles of water and gatorade only.

The main aid station will have the usual ultra fair:  Chips, nuts, pretzels, cookies, gels, fresh fruit, etc., etc.

There will be three set meals (schedule TBA), all food will be vegetarian.  There will be no kitchen on-site, food will be prepared off-site and brought to the race.  We are unable to customize meals, prepare anything specific, or re-heat food.

There are several groceries and delis within a mile or two of the park.  Old World Food Market(link is external) is an excellent, large and well-stocked grocery store with hot and cold food bars located a little further away – about 10 minutes from the park, near the junction of 9W and I287.  Open 8am-9pm daily.  Other than the small food mart at the Shell station about 5 min. away, we are not aware of anything nearby open overnight.

Alcohol is strictly not allowed in the park.

There will be multiple physically-distanced individual rest areas on the grass along both sides of the course, just past the lap counting station, before the restroom.  Areas will be 7 ft. × 7 ft., delineated in advance with ribbon, and will be spaced 7 ft. from each other and 7 ft. off the course.  One participant per area.  Helpers are allowed in this area also.  Tables / chairs are not provided, you will need to bring your own.  This area is exposed to the sun and rain, canopies / pop-up tents are allowed but with a maximum size of 10′ × 10′, and must be secured to the ground.  Camping tents are not allowed – there is no camping permitted in the park.  Smaller RVs MAY be allowed in the parking lot (no hookup), we are waiting to hear from the park.

You can also use your vehicle for resting and to store any valuables or items you’d rather not leave exposed – parking field 5 is just off the course.  If you bear left at the counting station, the pathway passes right next to the long row of parking spots on the east side of the lot, and re-joins the race course at the restroom.  This detour adds about 110 meters.

Please see site map (coming soon)

We cannot be responsible for valuables left unattended.

Due to COVID, runners are permitted a maximum of two helpers / friends / family / guests (visitors of any description) in totality throughout the event.  If possible, helpers should be from the same household as the runner they are crewing for, to help prevent the spread of COVID.

There is strictly no pacing allowed – runners may not be accompanied for any portion of any lap.

There are three restrooms along the course:  One at parking field 5 about 150 meters past the race staging area, one at parking field 6, and one at parking field 3.  All have running water, and are lit at night.  No showers.

Medical personnel will be present on-site during the entire race, for emergencies only.  (No massages, etc.)

Runners exhibiting medical issues may be asked to drop out of the race, at the discretion of the on-duty race director and / or medical personnel.  These decisions are final.

All runners must wear headlamps on the course at night, there are no lights on the course.  The race staging area will have minimal electric lighting.
The aid stations near mile 1 and mile 2 points will be staffed overnight and will serve as additional checkpoints.
A cyclist will circle the course continuously from sundown (8:30PM) until sunup (5:24AM)
A park police vehicle will patrol the park overnight, special for this event.

All participants will receive their race shirts and bibs in the mail in advance of the race, to further limit on-site interactions on race-day.  The cost of shipping is included in the race registration fee.  You will be notified by email when your package ships.  Please help us by registering early, entering a valid U.S. shipping address, and adding [email protected] to your address book to ensure you receive notifications.
