Steve's Run

        Steve’s Run is a Southwestern Michigan College tradition held in honor of Steven Briegel, the son of former SMC president David Briegel.  In 1990, a tragic event happened in the life of the College. Steven Briegel died after a 5½-year battle with cancer. The 22-year-old had graduated fifth in the DUHS Class of 1986 and had golfed and played basketball for the Chieftains. He had also been in band. Two years later, in 1988, Steve graduated from SMC with honors. At the time of his death he was a junior in Ferris State’s program at SMC.

        Join us on Saturday, July 29th, 2017 to raise money for the fight against cancer and for the Steve Briegel Scholarship by participating in the 10K Run, 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run.

        The Original Road and Trail Race will be held on Southwestern Michigan College’s Dowagiac Campus beginning and ending at the front of the David C. Briegel Building.

        The 10K course will consist of running through the golf course, cemetery, paved roads, College campus and wooded trails. The 5K Run/Walk will consist of running or walking through the College campus, wooded trails and paved roads.  The 1 Mile Fun Run routes will be entirely on the paved sidewalk.

        Both 10K and 5K courses have been certified by USA Track and Field.

Race Day Registration/Packet Pickup

·         Location: Zollar Building/Student Activity Center (SAC)

·         Times: Friday, July 28 – 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. & Race Day 7:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.

 

Awards Ceremony

Commences at 10:00 a.m. at the SMC Alumni Plaza located near the start line. Awards will be provided to the overall male and female winners of the 10K Run and 5K Run. The top 10K Run and 5K Run male and female winners from their age group will also be recognized. There are 16 age groups for male and female beginning with the age group of 10 and under through 80 and above.  

Family Fun

There will be many fun activities for the kids to take part in such as an inflatable bouncy house, face painting, balloon animals, etc.  The kids activities will begin at 8:45 a.m. and end at noon.
