Stride to Cure Stuttering 5k race and 1 mile walk

Hollins Communication Research Institute (HCRI) is hosting its first annual 5k race to benefit its stutter therapy program. Located on the Rivers Edge section of the Roanoke River Greenway, this race will provide you and your friends and family a fun event to attend this Spring! Your participation in this event will not only benefit you, but it will help raise critical funding needed to find a cure for this debilitating speech condition. Proceeds also will provide life-changing stuttering therapy for people in need, as well as go towards developing treatment innovations that make HCRI’s one-of-a-kind therapy more accessible to more people than ever before possible.

Race Day Timeline

The race day timeline is as follows:

Morning of packet pick-up/late registration: 7:15-7:45 am 1 mile walk begins: 8 am 5k race begins: 8:30 am Word from Dr. Ronald Webster, HCRI's founder and director: 10 am Awards Ceremony: 10:15-10:30 am

 

Awards

The overall age groups for the 5k race are as follows:

14 and Under
15-19
20-29
30-39
40-49
50-59
60+
*There will be awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category for males and females. There will also be awards for overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place for males and females.

T-shirts

T-shirts are promised to those who sign up before April 11. For those who register after the cut-off date, t-shirts will be a first come, first served basis. 

Race Day Pricing

If you do not pre-register for the race, you can absolutely still run/walk! We will have registration forms at the race location and day of registration will be held from 7:15 am-7:45 am. Race day pricing for this event will be $20 for the 1 mile walk and $30 for the 5k race. 

Packet Pick-Up

Packet pick-up will be at Fleet Feet (4347 Franklin Rd. Roanoke, VA 24018) on Friday, April 29 from 4pm-7pm.

If you would like to save $3, you can print a paper form of registration and mail it to the specified address.
