About the event

There is an epidemic that is sweeping our nation known as Domestic Violence. This epidemic affects the lives of thousands of victims, survivors, their families, even affecting those who are called to serve and protect victims of violence. Domestic Violence is defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner. Abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, economic or psychological actions or threats of actions that influence another person. This includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure or wound someone. The impact of domestic violence is felt not only by the women, men and children involved, but by our community as a whole. Domestic Violence can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion or gender. It can happen to couples who are married, living together or who are dating. Domestic Violence affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds and education levels.

S.T.A.N.D. (Standing Together Against Nationwide Domestic-Violence) - The S.T.A.N.D. Organization is dedicated to supporting survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as providing prevention education to youth and the community. S.T.A.N.D is mobilizing supporters across the country to make real change happen ALL AROUND THE WORLD. We advocate for those whose voices are silenced by the abuse of a stranger or a love one.

For our 5th annual we will be honoring Officer Daniel Malouf

He is a husband and a father of 4.He was raised in Dallas,Tx and Vernon New Jersey. After graduating high school, he joined the Army where he was stationed in Germany for about seven years. While in the Army, he was deployed to Kosovo, Iraq, and Afghanistan. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he applied to be a police officer and was hired by the Dallas Police Department. Officer Malouf has been a police officer for the City of Dallas for approximately nine years and has served as a patrol officer his entire career. As a patrol officer, he answers the 911 calls and deal mostly with Family Violence. Most of the time, the victims are caught off guard and need resources and he is often able to provide those resources for them. His capacity allows him to help people who need it and be a police officer that doesn’t just take the “bad guy” to jail, but act as a type of advisor for a person who needs it. Too many times, the people who commit the family violence know that line that they can walk without crossing to go to jail, but the victim still needs help. Officer Malouf would like to be that person to help the victim when there is still not a criminal charge that can be made against the suspect. He has handled a range of domestic situations from murders where the violator engaged in a high-speed chase in which he was shot in 2013. He survived and will be joining us at our 5th annual 10/5K..
