The Cherokee Chop 10k, 5k, and 1 Mile Fun Run

Whether you are a Warrior, a Tiger, or even from outside of Cherokee County, we want all runners and non-runners alike to come out a support a local teacher who had to medically retire last year. Mrs. Carol Oliphant has taught generations within the Cherokee County community. Through her love of literature, writing, and her students, we have all lived more fulfilled lives because of her.

Due to her sudden illness, she now requires at-home care which insurance is fighting not to pay. She and her family deserve at least monetary peace of mind while she heroically fights her way back to health to hopefully join the teaching force again.

All proceeds will benefit the Oliphant family and donations are welcome. There is a 10k virtual runner option. All you have to do is log a 10k through some sort of running app within 2 weeks of the race, send proof to [email protected], and we will mail you the 10k finisher's medal all participants will receive. There is also a "sleep in and stay warm" option by which your contribution will earn you a race shirt without having to run in the cold.

The Cherokee Chop 10k and 5k will be on certified courses (see Anniston Runners website under race courses for Centre, AL), and we plan on subsequent races to benefit families in need within the community. The fun run is a 1 mile course for those who just want a taste of the cold but like a quick return to the indoors. 

Overall winners (1st through 3rd) will be named for both the 5k and the 10k in the male and female categories. 

Age group awards will be given for the following:

0-9, 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80 & over
