For 2021 we’ve gone virtual which gives you options! You can choose to run where you want, when you want, and with who you want! You can complete the 10k or 5k distance anytime between April 24 and May 9, 2021. You can run where you live or make the drive up to our beautiful mountain community and run our course. We will have the course marked beginning with the start/finish as well as each mile marker. The course will be marked for the duration of the 16 days. Make a day or weekend out of it! Meet up with friends, bring the family, or your favorite 4-legged running buddy and enjoy our quiet mountain roads with plenty of space to social distance. You’ll probably see more cows and wildlife than you will people along your run. Whatever course you choose you can track it using your phone and your favorite app. You’ll then log back into runsignup and simply report your time and distance! If you use the Strava app, our routes are in there, just search RATC 10k or RATC 5k.
The Run Above the Clouds offers 10K and 5K road races over a beautifully scenic, challenging out-and-back course through the North Georgia mountains. At 2800 feet, The Run Above the Clouds is Georgia’s highest (and perhaps most scenic) 10K, featuring “the Cooper Gap Climb,” a 230-foot elevation change over a one-mile stretch. The Run Above the Clouds is a benefit for the students of Woody Gap School, the smallest and only K-12 public school in Georgia. Every year The Run Above the Clouds awards scholarships to graduating seniors and to postgraduates of Woody Gap School to encourage them to continue their education. We are a 501©(3) nonprofit organization. As of 2018 both our 5K and 10K routes are USATF certified as well as qualifiers for the AJC Peachtree Road Race.
