About the event
On Sunday, the July 17th 2016 come to Meghalaya and run the Sohra Cherrapunjee Marathon. It will take you through mist-covered valleys, quaint villages and fantastic views of rolling hills before we reach Sohra or Cherrapunjee, which once, received the heaviest rainfall on Earth. We are going to run amidst the clouds hence this event has been aptly named, the Abode of Running in the Clouds. While the rest of the country is simmering in the Indian summer of July, come run a cooler weather marathon in the hills of Sohra and experience Meghalaya's rich culture alongside.
The Sohra Cherrapunjee Marathon stands out as one of the most scenic marathons in India. The marathon route begins at Hynniew Mer (7th Mile Upper Shillong) and the initial 3 miles is a soft descend and flat till Mylliem Village. The route then goes through a couple of steep accent before it levels out. And after a short decent to Umtyngar, starts a tough initial climb till Mawjrong after which it is flattish till Mawkdok. The Mawkdot Bridge marks the beginning of the spectacular landscape and panoramic views of the Khasi Plateau looking south .The route after Mawkdok has its ups and down but with a gradual net descend. There is one last tough climb leading up to Laitryngew after which it's all downhill to Cherrapunjee.
