START Skyles Lake Lane at the Two Bear Gate. Runners and their fans are STRONGLY encouraged to take the shuttle to the Start, as parking will be nonexistent! If a fan will be driving you to the Start, tell him/her to take 2nd Street (Highway 93N) about 3.5 miles from downtown Whitefish; turn right onto Skyles Lake Lane; drive approximately .3 miles to the Two Bear Gate.
FINISH The Wave Aquatic and Fitness Center (“The Wave”) 1250 Baker Avenue, Whitefish – (406) 862-2444
DISTANCE This is a full marathon – 26.2 miles
Because of the rugged trail portion, we have been unable to have the course certified. However, we’ve measured the course with bicycle odometers and on foot with a GPS more times than we care to count. It’s 26.2 miles. Trust us!
CHARITY The Two Bear Marathon is hosted by The Wave and is supported by its many sponsors. One hundred percent of race entry fees will be donated to The Wave Scholarship Fund.
THE COURSE This is a Point-to-Point course. The first 15 miles take you through the Stillwater State Forest on dirt roads and trails, passing Beaver Lake, Murray Lake, Woods Lake and Thornberg Lake. The remainder of the course is paved. Miles 15 through 24 follow the north and east shores of Whitefish Lake to City Beach. You’ll cruise the town of Whitefish for the remaining 1.5 miles, ending at The Wave.
Elevation Gain and Loss – The good news is that there is a NET elevation loss of 229 feet! The bad news is the TOTAL elevation gain is over 4,600 feet! We start at an elevation of 3,273 feet. Only about one-fourth of the course could be considered flat.
AID STATIONS Water and Hammer Nutrition Heed sports drink approximately every 2 miles; Hammer Gel and orange slices available at selected Aid Stations along the course. If you would like to train with these products please contact anyone at Hammer Nutrition (www.hammernutrition.com), (406) 862-1877 or 1-800-336-1977.
