About the event

The 2019 Westerville Lions Rudolph Run/Walk 5K is a family-encouraged 5K event which kicks off the Westerville Lions Children’s Christmas Parade that starts immediately after the last participant makes the halfway turn.

Each year the proceeds from the Rudolph 5K Run/Walk cover most of the costs to produce the Westerville Lions Children's Christmas Parade.  In addition, the following Westerville organizations will receive a generous donation from any excess proceeds generated from the run and parade:

Westerville Caring & Sharing: This  is a community-centered organization that reaches out to Westerville City School District students/families who are in need. The purpose of Westerville Caring & Sharing is to help people get back on their feet, especially around back-to-school and holiday time. Westerville Public Library: We will be providing the library with funds to provide interpreters for hearing impaired kids during their story and music time events.

In addition, this year’s run will again feature a contest between the local elementary schools.  This year we have doubled the value of the cash prize to top out at $1,000 to the school Parent Organization with the overall best school times for those runners participating on behalf of their schools.

Lions: The World's Largest Service Club Organization

Our 46,000 clubs and 1.4+ million members make us the world's largest service club organization. We're also one of the most effective. Our members do whatever is needed to help their local communities.

Westerville Lions Club

The Westerville Lions Club was founded in 1928 as the community’s first service club. It is comprised of local men and women who individually and jointly volunteer their time to provide service to the Westerville community.  All profits from any Lion event will go toward Lions charitable organizations that will fight the major causes of preventable and reversible blindness.  None of the donated amount or activity profits will go towards the benefits of our members.  Sight supported activities supported by our club include organizations that:

provide free professional glaucoma screenings and make corneal transplants possible each year

establish and support a majority of the world's eye banks, hundreds of clinics, hospitals and eye research centers worldwide

collect millions of pairs of unwanted eyeglasses annually for free distribution to those in need in developing countries

offer screenings, eyeglasses and sports goggles to athletes through the Special Olympics-Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes Program

provide free quality eye care, eyeglasses, Braille-writers, large print texts, white canes and guide dogs for thousands of people each year

In addition to the above, funds will be used for scholarships to senior students in need of financial aid at Westerville’s 3 high schools and other local worthy causes in the community.
