2015 TCS New York City Marathon to Feature Exciting Variety of Sponsor Activities and Events for Runners and Fans

New York, October 26, 2015— New York Road Runners (NYRR) and its partners will present a variety of exciting activities and events surrounding the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon that will enhance the race experience for runners and fans, and engage them in the lead up to the race. These official partner activities will be featured throughout the 26.2-mile, five-borough race course during Race Week and on Race Day on Sunday, November 1.

TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES (TCS)

Tata Consultancy Services, one of the world’s leading IT services and consulting firms, is the Premier Partner of NYRR, the title sponsor of the TCS New York City Marathon, and Official Youth and Community Service Partner of NYRR.

  • The 2015 TCS New York City Marathon Mobile App Powered by Tata Consultancy Services features an interactive expo map, live on-map tracking of up to 10 runners on race day, a 2016 entry sweepstakes, and a number of other features. Developed by Tata Consultancy Services, the app is available for download free of charge throughout race week at the iTunes Store and Google Play Store.
  • TCS is sponsoring the TCS goIT Marathon App Pitch Contest and Awards Presentation taking place at the TCS New York City Marathon Pavilion on Friday, October 30 at 12:00 p.m. Four goIT finalists from city schools will present the fitness app they have created to a panel of three judges, including 2015 TCS New York City Marathon professional runner Meb Keflezighi, and NYRR President and CEO Michael Capiraso.
  • TCS and NYRR worked together to create a new program centered on data analytics, TCS Runfographics. These informative and fun data-driven illustrations are hosted on tcsnycmarathon.org, and speak to 2015 TCS New York City Marathon participants, fans and spectators. TCS Runfographics will be displayed on digital signage at the TCS New York City Marathon Pavilion, TCS New York City Marathon Health and Wellness Expo, at the start and finish lines of the race, and throughout the TCS New York City Marathon course at interactive kiosks.
  • At the TCS New York City Marathon Health and Wellness Expo, TCS has teamed up with NYRR to offer the NYRR Running Lab, designed to aid runners with their race day strategies. NYRR coaches will walk runners through a mile-by-mile course strategy session via the NYRR Course Strategy Sessions, powered by TCS. The NYRR Race Predictor, also powered by TCS, will take use a runner’s data, including training paces and recent race times—combined with years of TCS New York City Marathon results and splits—to calculate the best strategy and goal for runners. Pace bands will be available to help keep runners on track throughout the race.
  • As part of TCS’ support of a variety of NYRR youth running programs, events, and resources, TCS will be supporting fundraising efforts with a ‘Give to Get’ program by providing a unique shoelace bracelet to individuals who donate $10 or more to NYRR youth running programs at the TCS New York City Marathon Health and Wellness Expo and the TCS New York City Marathon Pavilion.

AIRBNB

A Foundation Partner of NYRR, Airbnb proudly supports NYRR’s year-round events and initiatives. Airbnb is committed to giving unique access to neighborhoods throughout New York City’s five boroughs by connecting guests from all over the world with local hosts who act as local ambassadors, bringing the global running community together.

  • Prior to race week, Airbnb partnered with local running clubs and non-profits to organize community service runs across New York’s five boroughs to clean up parks across the city. Starting with a short run, park cleanup and celebration at nearby local businesses, the Airbnb community helped clean up Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, Freshkills Park in Staten Island, Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, Fort Tryon Park in Manhattan, and McCarren Park in Brooklyn.
  • During race week, Airbnb will partner with local running groups to help curate celebrations in each of NYC’s five boroughs. The experiences will feature local vendors from each neighborhood, and guests will be offered free branded Airbnb running themed items and local goods.   • At the TCS New York City Marathon Pavilion, Monday through Thursday, Airbnb will host run hubs in which runners can participate in taper runs led by local groups. Lockers, hydration and Airbnb giveaways will be available. Click here to view the schedule.
  • On race day, Airbnb brand ambassadors will be handing out giveaways and cheering on runners at Grand Army Plaza on Central Park South between 5th and 7th Avenues from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

ASICS

ASICS is an NYRR Foundation Partner, and the official footwear and apparel sponsor of the TCS New York City Marathon.

  • At this year’s TCS New York City Marathon Health and Wellness Expo, The TCS New York City Marathon Store Presented by ASICS will have special edition footwear, apparel, and accessories. ASICS is also presenting Pace Your Race, allowing runners to go online or come in person to print out a custom pace band.
  • ASICS will celebrate the world’s largest marathon with the “World’s Biggest Selfie Stick,” a 90-foot-tall interactive structure that will be open to the public at Gansevoort Plaza in Manhattan Thursday, October 29 through Saturday, October 31. The eight-story-tall selfie stick, builds on the theme of ASICS’ global “It’s a Big Race. Go Run It.” ad campaign, and is designed to give all race fans the chance to participate in the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon. Using the custom module, visitors will be able to capture a one-of-a-kind, race-themed selfie video on their own phones during the countdown to Marathon Sunday.

UNITED AIRLINES

United Airlines, New York area’s largest airline, is an NYRR Foundation Partner and is the official airline of the TCS New York City Marathon. United Airlines also serves as the official airline and a supporting sponsor of the other NYRR Five-Borough series events—the United Airlines NYC Half, Airbnb Brooklyn Half, Queens 10K, Bronx 10-Mile, and the Staten Island Half.

  • United Airlines returns as the presenting sponsor of the TCS New York City Marathon Opening Ceremony Presented by United Airlines. United Airlines branded blankets will be handed out to VIPs and early guests, and all attendees will be given United Airlines cheer sticks to join in the celebration.
  • United Airlines will be at the TCS New York City Marathon Health and Wellness Expo, encouraging attendees to share the number of miles they’ve traveled to the race for a chance to win two (2) first class roundtrip tickets anywhere United flies. MileagePlus® will be providing program members with the opportunity to use award miles for access to United’s VIP Start Tent on race day. Free bottle bands and pace decals will also be handed out, while supplies last.
  • On race day, United Airlines will be a part of five Entertainment zones along the course, cheering on runners in Brooklyn and Manhattan.

ABBOTT

Global healthcare company, Abbott, is a new partner for the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon. The partnership complements Abbott’s existing title sponsorship of the global Abbott World Marathon Majors.

The partnership includes the use of 15 i-STAT® systems, handheld blood analyzers that perform commonly ordered blood tests within minutes. The i-STAT® devices, which Abbott is deploying across all Abbott World Marathon Majors races, empower medical personnel to better administer needed care on site.

Additionally, Abbott teams will be on-site in New York City during the race weekend, giving runners and supporters an opportunity to participate in a global quest to understand what a full life means to people around the world by taking a short quiz or sharing their story in a selfie video. FOOT LOCKER

Foot Locker partnered with ASICS America Corporation to launch its “Real Lives. Real Runners.” campaign for the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon. The campaign, building off of last year’s campaign, “All Runners Welcome,” included a call to filmmakers to submit short films about runners, why they run and how running impacts their lives. The winning film will air nationally during the television broadcast of the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon, and the winning filmmaker will receive an $8,000 grant from MOFILM, plus an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for the annual MOFILM Awards.

On Monday, October 26, from 5:30-8:00 p.m., Foot Locker and ASICS will host an exclusive screening of the three most-watched Real Lives. Real Runners. teasers, where the winner will be announced. NYRR’s Chairman of the Board, George Hirsh will be a panelist. Five teasers can be found on Foot Locker’s YouTube page.

Foot Locker is also the sponsor of the 2015 TCS New York City Marathon Foot Locker Five Borough Challenge, a race within the TCS New York City Marathon between five inspiring runners representing each of New York City’s five boroughs.

THE RUDIN FAMILY

The male and female open and wheelchair division winners are each presented with the Samuel
Rudin Trophy in finish-line ceremonies following their victories. The trophy honors Samuel Rudin, who competed as a distance runner for the Pastime Athletic Club in the Bronx from 1917 to 1923. The Lewis and Jack Rudin Award will be presented to the highest male and female fundraisers in New York City for NYRR’s Team for Kids, in honor of longtime marathon supporters Jack Rudin and his brother Lewis Rudin (1927–2001).

TAG HEUER

TAG Heuer is an NYRR Strategic Partner and the official timekeeper and timepiece of the TCS New York City Marathon.

  • In the lead-up to the TCS New York City Marathon, TAG Heuer partnered with Rodale Inc.’s Runner’s World for the 2015 Runner’s World Cover Search presented by Tag Heuer, a national contest to find two inspiring runners to be featured on the December cover of Runner’s World. The two winners, who will also be announced on the TODAY show on October 29, will receive a watch from Tag Heuer, a gift card from Asics, a VIP New York City Marathon Weekend package, and other prizes. Judges included Editor-in-Chief David Willey, President of Events for New York Road Runners and the Race Director of the TCS New York City Marathon Peter Ciaccia, TODAY Show news anchor Natalie Morales and New York Rangers Goalie Henrik Lundqvist.
  • TAG Heuer commemorative timepieces will be presented to each race champion at the Winners’ Media Availability on Monday, November 2 at 11:30 a.m. at the NYRR Media Center at the TCS New York City Marathon Pavilion.

WABC-TV, CHANNEL 7, AND ESPN2

The 2015 TCS New York City Marathon broadcast is produced in partnership with IMG Productions and will be televised live on Sunday, November 1, on WABC-TV, Channel 7 in the New York Tri-State area from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. ET and for the rest of the nation on ESPN2 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. ET. A highlight show will air from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. ET on WABC-TV, Channel 7 and local ABC affiliates throughout the nation. Additionally, the race will be available live in Spanish via ESPN Deportes+ and internationally via a variety of global broadcast partners.

Pre-race coverage will be carried live in the New York Tri-State area on WABC-TV, Channel 7 from 7:00 to 9:00 a.m. ET on Sunday, November 1. Additional race-weekend programming on WABC-TV, Channel 7 includes live coverage of the TCS New York City Marathon Opening Ceremony Presented by United Airlines on Friday, October 30, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and the Countdown to the Starting Line on Saturday, October 31, from 7:30 to 8:00 p.m. ET.
