This year the race started in Durban to finish in Pietermaritzburg. It was an up run. South African runners managed to win the race in the men’s and women’s division. It is the first time it happens in 23 years.
Gift Kelehe finished the race after an 5:38:36 run. Winning Comrades seems to be a family business, since Gift Kelehe’s brother Andrew had already won the race in 2001.
Ethiopia Mohammed Husien took the second place in 05:46:14 and Hatiwande Nyamande the third in 05:48:19.
The women’s title went to Caroline Wostmann in 6:12:22. Another South African runner, Charne Bosman took the second place in 06:33:24. The Nurgalieva sisters who were nearly unbeatable from 2003 to 2013 finished at the third and fourth place. Eleanor Greenwood, last year’s winner finished at the 6th place.
The race remains an extremely popular event with 13,006 finishers.
