Barry Walton, an American filmmaker form Michigan went to India in 2011 to cover the 2nd edition of the La Ultra – The High ultra marathon. The race is incredible. It takes place in the high Himalayas of Leh, Ladhak, in the state of Jammu & Kashmir at very high altitude (between 14,000 and 17,700 ft.).

I had the opportunity to interview its race director Dr. Rajat Chauhan back in 2012. You can read it here (La Ultra – The High: Can you run this high?).

From this journey, Barry has produced a great documentary: The High: Making the Toughest Race on Earth.

If you happen to be in Michigan in late July, the premiere of the film will be at the Main Art Theatre in Royal Oak on July 30th. If you cannot make it, the documentary is available for download or can be purchased as a DVD on the film’s website.

In 2015, the event will start on August 16th.
