Mo Farah takes historic victory at Great North Run

The 5,000 and 10,000m Olympic champion is the first British runner to win the race in Newcastle since Steve Kenyon in 1985.
The finished the race in 1:00:00, just in front of his training partner Mike Kigen (1:00:00). Marathon Olympic Champion Steven Kiprotich took the third place in 01:01:35.

Last year Mo had finished second behind Kenenisa Bekele.

In the women’s race, Mary Keitany, who had won the 2012 London Marathon topped the podium in 01:05:39. This time equals the course record established by Paula Radcliffe. Gemma Steel finished second in 01:08:13 and Marathon Olympic Champion Tiki Gelana was third in 01:08:45.

Next year, the race will take place on September 13th.
