November 5, 2014 – The 7th annual Indianapolis Monumental Marathon took place on November 1, 2014 with huge success. Despite freezing temperatures a record number of finishers in the marathon and half marathon were there to bear witness to thousands of success stories, just a few of which are:
Alana Hadley, 17,broke the course record (set last year by 4-time Olympian Colleen De Reuck). Hadley’s winning time of 2:38:34, beat her own personal best three minutes. She led three other women to Olympic Trials Qualifiers, making that the most number of Olympic Trials Qualifiers in our women’s marathon history. Hadley’s time is the second fastest USA marathon mark of all time in the 16-17 age category. Alana has partnered with Autism Society of Indiana and will donate a portion of her prize purse.
A world record by Hailey Danisewicz (Chicago) for female above-knee amputees in 4:25:28
A single age world record (currently undergoing verification process) by 92 year old Mike Fremont (Cincinnati) in the half marathon with a time of 3:19:30
A thrilling come from behind victory for MichaelEaton (Louisville) in the men’s marathon, winning in 2:19:49
A new course record in the women’s half marathon by Alisha Williams (Colorado Springs) in 1:12:39 – in another field of four Olympic trials qualifiers.
Two men qualified for the OlympicTrials from the half marathon as well,which was won by Tom Anderson (Indianapolis,) in1:04:27.
Over 1000 students graduated from MonumentalKids Movement, more than ever before.

David Rikke (Indianapolis) finished the 50 states marathon circuit for the second time.
The inaugural ApexMonumental Challenge, presented by Apex Benefits Group, saw 22 companies take place in this participation-based employee health & wellness competition.
For the 7th consecutive year, Franciscan St. Francis Health served as the presenting sponsor of the marathon and half marathon. Indianapolis-based Lilly Diabetes is joined in support as the presenting sponsor of the Monumental 5k.
Plans are already underway for the 8th annual race, which is set for Saturday November 7, 2015. Registration for 2015 will open on January 1st.
