Shalane Flanagan breaks the tape at the 2017 TCS New York City Marathon

The victory went to Geoffrey Kamworor who crossed the finish line at 02:10:53. He finished 3 seconds ahead of Wilson Kipsang. Lelisa Desisa (02:11:32) made notched third place.

In the ladies race, Shalane Flanagan claimed victory with a time of 02:26:53. She is the first american to win the prestigious marathon since Miki Gorman in 1977 !

“I’ve dreamed of a moment like this since I was a little girl,” Flanagan said through tears after the race. “So this means a lot to me, to my family and hopefully inspires the next generation of American women to just be patient. These are the moments that we dream of as athletes, and this is going to feel good for a really long time.”

Mary Keitany earned runner-up honors with a time of 02:27:54. Mary had entered to race with the goal to win it for the fourth year in a row. Rounding out the top three was Mamitu Daska with a time of 02:28:08.
