Eliud Kipchoge grinded past more than 40777 runners to win in 02:01:39. This makes him the fastest man to ever run a marathon. This is more than a minute faster than the previous record, hold by fellow Kenyan Dennis Kimetto. Amos Kipruto earned runner-up honours with a time of 02:06:23. Finishing third was Wilson Kipsang (02:06:48).

In the women’s race, Gladys Cherono scored victory with a time of 02:18:11 . She finished 23 secondes ahead of Ruti Aga. While Tirunesh Dibaba came in third at 02:18:55
