For his first half marathon, 21 year-old Ethiopian Birhanu Legese sprinted to the finish line to take the victory in 59:45. David Kogei from Kenya was defeated on the line and finished in 59:46. Abraham Cheroben also from Kenya, who was the favorite for the race only managed to take the third place in 59:49.
In the women’s race, the victory went to Cynthia Kosgei (KEN) in 1:10:52. She beat fellow Kenyan Elizabe Cherono who finished in 1:10:56. Isabellah Andersson from Sweden finished third in 1:10:56.
32,025 runners from 106 nations had entered the race.
