Cutting more than four and a half minutes from his second-place finish a year ago, Zachary Ornelas (2:20:21.97) outran 3,800 runners to win the 38th annual Detroit Free Press in Michigan.
It was his second win in the last three years at the event which temporarily crosses into Windsor, Canada.
Geoffrey Burns (2:26:22.24) managed to hold off last year’s winner Michael Andersen (2:26:59.36) for second.
For the women, Lyubov Denisovia (2:41:35.74) cutting just under six minutes from her runner-up finish a year ago to take the top spot for third time in four years.
Valentyna Poltavka secured second with a time of 2:42:07.98.
She finished third a year ago.
Michelle Grevenstuk (2:53:23.97) came in a distance third.
Alan Peterson (1:07:08.93) bested an impressive 11,700+ runners to win the Detroit Free Press Half Marathon.
The event has two half marathon course, the much more popular being the International which covers first portion of the full marathon.
Earning runner-up honors was Alex Wilson with a time of 1:08:18.63.
Mike Roth (1:09:51.84) rounded out the top three.
For the women, it was Sarah Boyle (1:14:40.99) coming in comfortable ahead of the field.
Kayla Gagnon followed in second with a time of 1:23:17.81.
Lindsay Doherty legged out third at 1:25:04.28.
