Brett Hales bested more than 900 runners with a time of 1:07:01 to win the Bryce Canyon Half Marathon in Utah.
Beginning in Bryce, the race descends through Bryce Canyon National Park, passes the town of Tropic and ends in Cannonville.
John Coyle, the only other runner to clear an hour and 10 minutes, came in second at 1:08:48.
The pair swapped places from a year ago.
Robert Finicum (1:12:38) finished just 15 seconds ahead of Gary Krugger (1:12:53) for third.
In the women’s race, Melanie Burnham, who finished third a year ago, won comfortably with a time of 1:23:24.
Runner-up Shelby Nelson (1:25:24) shaved just over six minutes from her 10th place finish in 2014, to take second.
Aubree Hunter held her own for third at 1:26:06.
