Jason Leonard (2:27:45) outpaced more than 1,000 runners to win the Tobacco Road Marathon in Cary, North Carolina, just west of Raleigh.
The USATF Boston Marathon qualifying course includes 21 miles along the American Tobacco Trail.
Gavin Coombs (2:29:51) earned runner-up honors with a time of 2:29:51.
He won the event in 2010.
Peyton Hoyal (2:33:22) rounded out the podium in third.

For the women, it was Natalie Kretzer (2:59:40) winning with ease.
She was the only female to finish under three hours.
Coming in a distant second was Anna Grummon with a time of 3:07:11.
She finished fourth a year ago.
Meredith Hale (3:09:32) took third.
Christian Thompson (1:09:22) topped more than 2,200 runners to win the Tobacco Road Half Marathon.
In second was J. Penny with a time of 1:11:15.
Christopher Capps (1:12:12) came in less than a minute later for third.
For the women, it was last year’s full marathon winner Tara Richardson (1:19:39) taking the top spot.
Paula Pridgen secured second with a time of 1:23:32.
Kristin Weisse finished third at 1:24:07.
