Marathon results
Masashi Shirotake (2:27:57) defended his title against more than 900 runners to win the Charlotte’s Thunder Road Marathon in North Carolina.
Shirotake cut just over four minutes from his winning mark in 2014.
Repeating in second was Bert Rodriguez (2:28:39).
Rodriguez chopped more than seven minutes from his time a year ago.
Mike Mitchell finished a distant third with a time of 2:35:47.
For the women, it was Lucy Rogers (3:10:11) taking the top spot.
In a tight race for second, Jenny Drabble (3:14:47) managed to hold off Katie Ringley (3:15:20).

Half Marathon results
Edwin Schlichter (1:12:36) bested almost 2,500 runners to win the Charlotte’s Thunder Road Half Marathon.
Last year’s winner Lance McDaniel (1:13:13) finished second despite cutting close to half a minute from his winning mark in 2014.
Coming in a closer third was James Perez with a time of 1:13:32.
For the women, it was Alice Rogers (1:22:42) outrunning Stacy Mercer (1:25:41) and the rest of the field for first.
Heather Costello rounded out the top three with a time of 1:27:22.
