The announcement for the French bid to organize the 2015 Trail World Championships occurred on Saturday, November 2, 2013, in Annecy-le-Vieux, France.
The race for the official bid is the MaXi-Race.
Last weekend IAU representative, Paco RICO, visited Annecy-le-Vieux and took a tour around Lake Annecy via the surrounding summits.
Mr. Rico was accompanied by staff from the MaXi-Race (the trail running race in the Haute-Savoie area of the French Alps that takes place at the end of May, bringing together 5000 runners from all over Europe to Lake Annecy – www.maxi-race.org), to evaluate if the event team and the race course are suited to organize the 2015 Trail World Championships. Support from local governments (city hall, etc.), from the national athletics federation (FFA represented by Michel Huertas, Vice-President in charge of non-stadium competitions), the regional athletics league (represented by Mr. Ferrari, President), local athletics committees and clubs, and financial partners (Outdoor Sports Valley, Tecnica, Jean-Lain-Automobile, Gatorade, Dare2b…), made a great impression on the IAU representative. He was pleasantly surprised by the number of such important stakeholders in attendance, including the president of ITRA (Michel POLETTI), during the Saturday evening gathering that included viewing the race’s official film.
An extraordinary ambassador to support this bid
The Maxi-Race organizing team also took the opportunity to publicly confirm Maud Gaubert’s support. The 2011 World Champion will be the official ambassador for this bid and for the 2015 World Championships if they take place in France. This superlative ambassador has already demonstrated her commitment to the event, having run both the MaXi-Race and the Marathon-Race (the last 43 km). She shared her intention to run in 2015, and would be happy to represent France on the podium, or even to win another World Champion title.
The final decision regarding the French and MaXi-Race’s bid will be delivered in January 2014, during the IAU Congress in Monaco.
