Registration for the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon (28 March) was closed at the beginning of December of the last year. Nevertheless there is still a way to join the biggest half marathon in the Czech Republic. The charity partners Light for the World (Světlo pro svět) and The Reporter Foundation (Nadační fond Reportér) offer the last start numbers.
RunCzech co-works with 25 charity organizations, through which runners can buy start numbers. The dose of endorphins after the race is often enriched with the good feeling that event participation has also contributed to a good cause. By purchasing the start number through charity, runners are able to support, for example, handicapped children from orphanages, homeless or people fighting against cancer.
Most of the charity organizations have already sold out their start numbers for the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon. However The Reporter Foundation has still 21 start numbers to offer and Light for the World – up to 512 start numbers left for purchase. “We call this project “Run against blindness”. If you buy a registration via Light for the World you can fund a cataract eye surgery for a person in Africa, allowing him/her to regain the sight”, explains the director of Light for the World, Čestmír Hrdinka. “Till now for the Sportisimo Prague Half Marathon we have 1,523 people that will run in support of non-profit organizations. Last year a total of 4197 runners joined the seven races of the RunCzech Running League and gave over 86 000 EUR contribution for the nonprofit sector.
”Running for a good cause is not yet very popular in the Czech Republic, but a good example comes from the Virgin Money London Marathon, which was able to collect 6 million pounds since 1981. This achievement makes it the biggest sports fundraising event in the world.
