Edinburgh Marathon Running Workshop Event

THE secrets to success for runners are set to be revealed by top fitness experts at a free workshop.

Organisers of the Edinburgh Marathon Festival are holding the training session as the countdown to Scotland’s biggest running weekend begins. Runners of all abilities are invited to sign up for the workshop on March 7 at Meadowbank Sports Centre, 139 London Road, Edinburgh from 7pm to 9.30pm. Experts will be on hand offering advice on everything from training plans to nutrition, injury prevention to motivational techniques to help get people in the best possible shape.

Edinburgh Marathon Festival race director, Neil Kilgour, said: “Come and be inspired at our free spring training evening.

“We’re proud that runners from more than 100 countries will take part in the EdinburghMarathon Festival in May starting in the heart of Scotland’s capital. For every single runner, their big day will mark the culmination of months of training and hard work. We’d like to help people towards that magical moment when they cross that finish line. Getting together with fellow runners and fitness experts is a great way to get race ready.”

Alex McEwan, endurance coach with Edinburgh Athletic club, will lead coaching sessions with individually designed training schedules to suit every Edinburgh MarathonFestival race distance from the 5K to the 10K, the half marathon to the full 26.2 miles. Sarah Dempster, a nutritionist and personal trainer with Edinburgh Leisure, will be on hand with plenty of advice on the best things to eat to fuel a race performance to be proud of and experts from our retail partner, Run and Become, will share their knowledge and experience on all things running.

Free bottles of Strathmore Water and Eat Natural cereal bars will be provided. Runners wishing to attend must book in advance. A maximum of four tickets per person are available and runners are advised to attend the training workshop dressed ready to run.

Second only to the London Marathon in terms of size, the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2013 weekend on Saturday May 25 and Sunday May 26 includes the full marathon as well as the half marathon, a 10K, a 5K, two junior races, an international breakfast run for visiting overseas runners, mascot race and the increasingly popular team relaymarathon, affectionately called the Hairy Haggis Team relay.

Together with the Edinburgh Marathon Festival official charity, Macmillan Cancer Support and hundreds of other charities, the organisers are hoping to raise more than £4.5 million in 2013 which will be the 11th Edinburgh Marathon.

Standard entries for the full marathon are sold out but charity places are still available. Standard entries for the half marathon are still open but receiving record entries so may close soon. Marathon relay teams can still enter.

The 10K, the 5K and both junior races on the Saturday are still open. The EdinburghMarathon has joined the world’s elite road races by becoming the first in Scotland to be officially recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations, the athletics governing body.The IAAF bronze label now puts the Edinburgh Marathonamong the top 75 in the world making it a pivotal part of the sporting calendar for runners.
