Paris Marathon 2014

For his marathon debut, Kenenisa Bekele (ETH) won the Paris Marathon in 2h05’02", establishing new course record. The previous record was set by the Kenyan Stanley Biwott in 2012 in 2h05’10").

The three-time Olympic champion on 5,000 and 10,000m, multiple world record holder on the same distances impressed with his performance in the French Capital.

Flomena Cheyech (KEN) was the first lady to cross the finish line in 2h22’42", also establishing a new course record.

On the 50,000 participants announced this year, 40,783 were on the start line on the avenue des Champs-Elysées and 39,115 managed to cross the finish line of this 38th edition of the Paris Marathon, located avenue Foch. This is a new record. The runners were coming from 138 different countries. The average age of the participants was 40 for the ladies and 41 for the men. Women represented 21% of the population.

The participation keeps growing over the years. The runners were 39,967 in 2013 and 34,297 in 2012. This confirms Paris Marathon as one of the top popular marathons in the world.

This year the weather was mild, with a bright spring sun glowing over the starting line. This led many Parisians (est. 250,000) to gather along the whole course to cheer up the runners.

Cette année, les conditions météorologiques étaient particulièrement clémentes, avec un beau soleil sur la ligne de départ ont poussé un grand nombre de parisiens (estimé à 250 000) à venir encourager les coureurs tout le long du parcours.
